On the anniversary of its acquisition, Andersen EV, the UK’s premium home charge point provider, has reported that sales of its A2 unit have doubled since 2022, reflecting the growing number of consumers switching to electric vehicles.
Andersen has a strong association with premium brands; it is a recommended installer for Porsche and has been chosen as a preferred supplier by JLR. These relationships make Porsche and JLR the first and second brands most driven by Andersen A2 users, followed respectively by BMW, Tesla and Audi.
Analysis of new customer purchases over the past year shows that demand for the minimalist A2 unit is spread across the UK and Ireland, with the top three hot spots in affluent postcode areas of Kingston-upon-Thames, Oxford and Belfast. Reading is fourth in the listings of most popular areas, while Guildford and Basingstoke are tied in fifth place.
The A2 is the only home charge point on the market where the cable and plug are completely hidden when not in use, providing a unique proposition to style-conscious EV drivers. It is available in over 125 colour combinations, with two new fascias – carbon hydrographic and Jet Black – having been launched over the past year. The most popular colour choices among Andersen customers are led by Nearly Black, followed by the new Jet Black and Steel. Cotswold Oak remains the most chosen fascia among its durable Accoya wood finishes.
Since its acquisition, Andersen EV has focused on enhancing its customer service offering to be more on par with the purchase experience offered by other premium brands. It has developed numerous software and technology upgrades over the past year, including the first in a series of user-centric enhancements with the launch of an augmented reality (AR) tool, helping potential customers visualise how the A2 unit might look attached to the exterior of their home or workplace.
Other value-added services include longer customer service hours, 24-hour dispatch from the Bedford factory and installation within two weeks of order via Andersen’s team of in-house installers or affiliate technicians. Over the past year, the affiliate programme has grown by a third, providing coverage across the UK and Ireland that boosts the reach of the in-house team.
David Martell, CEO of Andersen EV, commented: “We acquired Andersen EV because we recognised the potential in the A2 unit to succeed in the UK home charge market and have spent the past year bringing the ownership experience back on par with the levels customers expect with a premium purchase. These changes have positively influenced A2 sales, and we have doubled our operations to match this increased demand. We are also considering launching a second product in 2024 to meet changing customer needs.
“The Electric Vehicle industry is continuing to change, with the government U-Turn on 2030 and changes to the ZEV mandate, consumers need to be supported and reassured as they change EV ownership. We aim to guide customers through the purchase process, advising on a more holistic EV ownership experience and how to make it work with their lifestyle. Building consumer confidence in EVs is crucial for uptake to continue on its current trajectory.”
In response to the fast-growing demand for its A2 charger, Andersen has doubled production capacity and increased headcount at its Bedfordshire factory. As part of a £1.5 million investment by parent company EVIOS Plc, it is actively recruiting across R&D, installation, customer service and manufacturing functions.
