Nine in 10 drivers would prioritise industry accreditation when choosing a home EV charger

A clear majority of prospective EV buyers say they would want the provider of a new charge point for their home to have some form of industry accreditation – more than any other criteria that might influence their choice of charger.

The research, commissioned by Andersen – Britain’s premium home charge point manufacturer, asked petrol and diesel drivers which factors would most influence their choice of charge point provider if they were to make the shift to EV. 87% of respondents said ‘industry accreditation’ would be ‘very important’ or ‘somewhat important’ to them; a figure that rises to 93% among those aged between 18 and 24.

The survey also revealed that 63% of respondents ranked affordability as a key factor in choosing a supplier, while a ‘long warranty’ was important for 42%, followed by whether the charge point is compatible with their energy provider (34%).

Andersen’s in-house installation team gained Which? Trusted Trader accreditation in 2024, confirming that the business attained the highest standards during a rigorous assessment process. The brand was also named Which? Trusted Trader of the Month for January 2025.

Andersen is currently the only EV charge point provider that employs its own installers with an all-electric vehicle fleet.

David Martell, CEO of Andersen EV, said: “Driving mass adoption of EVs requires the industry to understand potential purchase blockers and take steps to build consumer confidence and earn trust. We direct as much investment into installation capabilities and customer support as we do into new products to ensure we stay ahead of the pack at the premium end of the charge point market.”

Andersen recently launched the Andersen Quartz to meet demand for a stylish yet affordable ‘smart’ EV charge point. Like its sister products, the Andersen Quartz is also equipped with a 7-year warranty, which is the longest available with any home charge point, covering the charger and all ancillary parts. The new unit is available for £695 (inc. VAT) and fully installed for just £1,105 (inc. VAT) using Andersen’s in-house team of nationwide EV installers.

To maximise practicality and convenience, the feature-rich unit is available as either a socketed unit (a first for an Andersen product), so customers can use their own cable, or with a tethered cable. The unit’s state-of-the-art electronics, created by the Andersen in-house R&D team, offer full compatibility with solar power and can make the most of low-cost electricity tariffs that enable users to ‘smart’ charge at a fraction of the cost of public charging.
