Andersen and Octopus Energy are making electric vehicle (EV) running even more affordable for those considering the switch to an EV. Thanks to 5,000 miles of free EV charging1 and integration with smart EV tariff Intelligent Octopus Go, drivers can cut annual running costs to a fraction of petrol or diesel expenses. And, if they install a stylish, personalised Andersen Quartz home charger, they can still make savings of around £226 in the first year.2
The average electric vehicle driver in the UK covers 8,740 miles per year,3 which will require around 2,648 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity in a typical EV with efficiency of 0.303 kWh per mile.4 At an average price of £0.23 per kWh, that totals an annual electricity bill of just over £609.
A typical petrol car requires around 990 litres of fuel to complete this mileage. At an average price of £1.35 per litre,5 that’s an annual petrol bill of just over £1,336, meaning EV drivers make a saving of £727.
Yet, Andersen and Octopus Energy are offering even further cost savings. On Intelligent Octopus Go, its super-low smart charging rates are as little as £0.07 per kWh. EV charging could therefore cost just £185 annually, saving almost £424 compared to standard electricity tariffs and £1,151 compared to petrol.
Add Andersen’s 5,000 free miles, worth £106, and first-year charging costs drop to just £79 – that’s savings of over £1,257 compared to annual petrol costs.
Even after installing a stylish Andersen Quartz home charger, which can be personalised with over 100 colour and finish options, EV drivers will still save money and get a return on the investment in a home charger within the first year of use. Including installation by one of Andersen’s expert team of engineers, the Andersen Quartz costs £1,130, meaning that EV drivers will still save £127 compared to petrol bills, and will continue to make savings for years to come.
“Motorists choosing electric vehicles have the opportunity to make major savings on their running costs,” says David Martell, CEO of Andersen. “While the switch from petrol to EV alone creates significant savings, with our Andersen Quartz charger, Intelligent Octopus Go and free mileage offer, EV drivers can enjoy a premium charging experience and make exceptional savings annually. There’s a perception that the investment in a home EV charger will outweigh the financial benefits but that’s not the case – motorists can see savings of around £117 in the first year with Andersen’s free miles, increasing to £1,151 from the second year.”
