Case Study

Brian, Eyvie & their Andersen

Brian loves his Andersen A2, but not as much as his VW E-Up - Eyvie!

We caught up with Brian to find out more about himself, Eyvie the VW E-Up & his Andersen installation.

“So, Brian. What was your introduction to Electric Vehicles & what made you make the switch to EV?”

I wasn’t initially looking to go electric - I was just looking for a small runabout as a second car so that I didn’t always have to use my V8. The government had just brought forward the date to end the sale of fossil fuelled cars and there was much talk about the pros and cons of electric vehicles. I did some research myself and realised that going electric was a viable option and actually the sensible choice. It would also allow me to become familiar with EV ownership before the mandatory switch.

“Please tell us more about your rare EYVIE the EV & why you chose this particular car?”

In late 2020, the choice of small EVs was limited. The VW up! met my requirements, I thought they looked cute and the bigger battery of the 2020 model made it a much better proposition. However, they were very rare cars with only 440 in the UK and very few for sale. I wasn’t in a hurry to buy, but it wasn’t long before I saw an ad for a used 2020 e-up! at a VW dealership located just 10 minutes away from where I grew up. It had even been registered on my birthday that year, making it feel like fate. The number plate, EYV, inspired the name Eyvie.

“How did you hear about Andersen & what was it about the Andersen A2 that got your attention?”

After a couple months of EV ownership mainly using my 3-pin "Granny" charger, I decided to invest in a proper home charging unit. I wanted a tethered charger for convenience, but also a tidy cable arrangement. The Anderson A2 caught my eye due to its sleek design and that ability to hide the cable when not in use. I thought that it would look smart on my house without any unsightly external trunking. The unit also had the features I needed, such as scheduled charging, but it was the aesthetics that sold me on it.

“Out of our 126 colour combinations, what colour options did you go for & how did you  make such a tough decision?”

The colour choice wasn’t that difficult for me. I went for the “Nearly Black” front and casing as it matched my garage door well!

“How long have you had your Andersen home charge point & what is it about the A2 that you enjoy?”

I’ve had my A2 for two years now and am still very happy with my choice. It is very easy to use, easy to unwind the cable and put it away again tidily. The app is simple to use and I regularly download the charging history to help me work out how much EV charging is costing me and whether it is worth me going back onto an EV tariff with my relatively low mileage.
