Andersen featured in The Times this week with David Martell interviewed around all things EV policy and future growth for Andersen.
In The Times’ Net Zero column, David discussed the move towards net zero and the part that government can play, and how Andersen was gearing up for even bigger and better things in 2024 and beyond.
Unlike his previous business, Andersen is focused on the more premium end of the market and works with luxury car brands including Jaguar, Land Rover and Porsche to supply its Andersen electric vehicle chargers costing £1,199.
“A third of all electric vehicles are sold from premium manufacturers such as Range Rover, Porsche, BMW and so on," Martell said. "We believe that the discerning motorist is going to want to have something that looks nice on the side of their house.”
If former employees have felt the lure of working with Martell, so, too, have investors. He has just closed a £4 million investment from Beringea, the venture capital firm, which takes the total investment raised to £10 million. Beringea was also an investor in Chargemaster. Martell said the money would be spent on new product development and on expanding its manufacturing facilities in Bedfordshire, where its chargers are made.
He also expects to start selling the Andersen electric vehicle chargers internationally within the next 12 months. Initial target markets include the Benelux countries and Germany. “Every single European market is slightly different, not necessarily in terms of technology, but in terms of the cultural fit and who you partner with. So one of the reasons we are not expanding to Europe until we’re ready for it is to make sure that we can do it properly.”
