Frequently Asked Questions about the Andersen A2

Here are a few frequently asked product questions that we receive. If you don’t find the answer to your questions below please don’t hesitate to contact us.

What is the length of the cable?

You can choose between either a 5.5m or 8.5m Evoflek tethered cable for charging at 7kW. Or 6.5m length for the 22kW cable. The cable from the charging point needs to reach the charging port of your car easily and without strain. We find that for the majority of people 8.5m is long enough to reach your carport which-ever way you wish to park.

What’s so special about this cable?

The Evoflek cable is our own hi-spec designed cable. It is specifically designed to be ultra-flexible and lightweight so it flexes perfectly in and out of the winding slot. The result is a perfectly hidden cable and plug that is easy to use.

Where is the cable stored after you charged the car?

The Andersen A2 has a storage slot that the cable winds into. This completely hides the cable from view. The plug also sits neatly hidden inside the top compartment. Watch a short video here

What is the 22kW version?

The 22kW ‘fast’ charging version is capable of charging up to 22kW per hour. This can only be supported by households that have a 3- Phase electrical set up. Most houses in the UK are single phase and can only support a maximum 7kW charging output.

Bear in mind that the charging speeds from fast chargers will depend on the car’s onboard charger, with not all models able to accept 7kW or more. These models can still be plugged into the charge point, but will only draw the maximum power accepted by the onboard charger. For example, a Volvo XC60 T8 PHEV has a standard 3.5kW onboard charger will only draw a maximum of 3.5kW, even if the fast charger is 7kW or 22kW.

Are the A2 Charge Points lockable?

Yes, our units are lockable via our free Kønnect App (available on Android or iOs). The Andersen A2 works remotely using wi-fi, allowing you to unlock and lock your charge point even when you are not there.

Are your units compatible with EU standards?

Yes, all our units are CE certified and are compatible with all EU country standards.

Frequently Asked Questions about Installation

What is the cost of installation?

Standard installation costs £400 including VAT. Please check what our standard installation includes here

I don’t live in the UK – how do I get an Andersen installed

We currently only install Andersen charge points across the UK. If you live in Europe we are able to ship the product to you and you will need to arrange your own installation. Installation of Andersen units must be carried out by a qualified professional electrician in accordance with our manual.

When should I get my charge point installed?

It is, of course, preferable to get your installation sorted prior to the delivery of your vehicle. Bear in mind that to meet OLEV eligibility criteria, installation cannot take place more than 4 months prior to delivery of your vehicle. Once you have received your vehicle you can apply for an OLEV grant anytime thereafter.

I have a builder on site, what cable do I need for 7kW EV charger?

You need to have a 6mm2, 3 core armoured cable up to 30m in length.

Before you Buy

A few checks

Buying an Andersen EV is very easy, however before placing an order please check the following:

The preferred way to connect your A2 to the internet is with a wired connection. This gives a direct and reliable connection and overall experience. Using wi-fi to connect to the internet is no longer a supported feature (from July 2019).  We have removed this feature due to wi-fi’s inherent unreliabilty in exterior situations which causes unpredicatable and annoying disconnections.

The A2 must be wall mounted vertically on a fixed and sturdy surface such as a brick wall. It cannot be fitted on temporary or moving structure – for example, a wooden fence or a narrow wall which is less than 350mm wide (such as a post). All four rear mounting screws need to be used.

The A2 is a manual winding cable system and you will need at least 500mm of clearance on both sides to operate the unit properly. The A2 should not be installed too far into a corner.

The A2 should also be installed at a minimum height of 500mm for ease of use.

Choose a location that is in close proximity to where you park your car. The cable from the charging point needs to reach the charging port of your car easily and without strain. The A2 has a built-in cable available in either 5.5m or 8.5m lengths for 7kw charging, or 6.5m length for 22kW enabled charging. We find that for the majority of people the 8.5m is long enough to reach your carport which-ever way you wish to park.

What connector do I need?

There are two connector types available for home charging on the market: Type 1 and Type 2. The connector depends on the make of your car. Please make sure that you select the correct connector type for your car.

How do I buy?

As an individual customer, you can buy an Andersen directly from our website using our online design studio

Electrical installers wishing to buy an Andersen product for their customers should also buy online. Please keep in mind that if you would like to claim OLEV on behalf of your customers, you will need a letter of approval from Andersen to install our products first. We will issue this letter of approval after you have purchased the unit/s and after you have sent us your OLEV certificate and your electrician accreditations.

Business customers wishing to purchase an EV charge point(s) for their business are encouraged to speak to one of our sales advisors who will be happy to help.
